Teen therapy provides a supportive, age-appropriate space for adolescents to explore emotions, manage stress, and develop healthier ways of coping. At Live Purposely, we work with teens to better understand their experiences, build confidence, and navigate challenges with greater support.
Watching your teenager struggle with anxiety, school stress, low self-esteem, or difficult emotions can leave you unsure of how to help. You may notice changes in their mood, withdrawal from family or friends, difficulty keeping up with school responsibilities, or less interest in activities they once enjoyed.
Teens may also find it difficult to talk openly with the people closest to them. Individual therapy can provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where your teen can explore what they are experiencing, develop coping skills, and learn healthier ways to communicate and manage difficult emotions.
Whether your teen is navigating academic pressure, peer relationships, family changes, identity development, or other challenges, therapy can provide support tailored to their individual needs.
Teen therapy is a form of individual counseling designed to support adolescents as they navigate emotional, behavioral, relational, and developmental challenges. Therapy provides a supportive space where teens can talk openly about their experiences and work with a therapist to develop skills that fit their needs and goals.
Depending on the concerns being addressed, therapy may focus on anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, relationships, communication, emotional regulation, life changes, or other challenges.
Because therapy for adolescents may involve both the teen and their caregivers, the therapist may work with parents or caregivers as clinically appropriate while maintaining a therapeutic environment that supports the teen’s developing independence and privacy.
Faith-based and Christian therapy is available for teens and families who would like to incorporate their Christian faith and spiritual beliefs into the therapeutic process.
Getting started looks different depending on your teen’s needs. The initial process gives you an opportunity to understand what your teen and family are experiencing, discuss concerns and goals, and determine an appropriate treatment approach.
Depending on your teen’s needs and treatment plan, sessions may be scheduled weekly, biweekly, or at another clinically appropriate frequency. Therapy may focus on emotional regulation, coping skills, communication, self-esteem, relationships, stress management, or other concerns.
Parents and caregivers may also be involved in the therapeutic process when clinically appropriate. The therapist can help families understand how to support progress outside of sessions while maintaining appropriate boundaries around the teen’s privacy.
Over time, therapy can help your teen develop greater confidence in managing emotions, communicating their needs, and navigating challenges.
Will I know what my teen discusses in therapy?
Teen therapy gives adolescents an opportunity to speak openly with their therapist, and privacy is an important part of building trust. At the same time, parents and caregivers may have an appropriate role in their teen’s care. The therapist will discuss expectations around privacy, parent involvement, and communication at the beginning of treatment. Information may need to be shared when there are safety concerns or when disclosure is otherwise required or permitted by law.
Can my teen attend therapy online?
Yes. Live Purposely offers secure virtual therapy sessions throughout Florida. Online therapy can be a convenient option for teens and families whose schedules, transportation, or other circumstances make traveling to an office difficult. We also offer in-person therapy in Brandon, Florida.
Depending on your teen’s needs and circumstances, the therapist can help determine whether virtual therapy is appropriate.
